installing the sounds MOD

Post  flash64 on Wed Aug 21, 2013 5:44 am

Hiya,

I would like to install this soundsmod.

http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/172548-gnomefathers-historical-gun-sounds-mod/

But it is beyond me how to do it.
tried it now twice.
First time I killed all the sounds, second time did not make a difference.

If you know how to do it could you explain in baby steps.
Just imagine you are speaking to a not so smart child , I won't take offence Smile

But seriously it starts to bug me that I cannot get it to work.
Many thanks with a cherry on top.

AFAIK, it's simple. You copy the whole "audio" folder from res to res_mods/0.8.7 and then extract sounds mod into res_mods/0.8.7 folder. It should replace some files in "audio" folder and copy new files ("scripts" folder).

AFAIK, it's simple. You copy the whole "audio" folder from res to res_mods/0.8.7 and then extract sounds mod into res_mods/0.8.7 folder. It should replace some files in "audio" folder and copy new files ("scripts" folder).
I think this was the installation procedure up to 8.6. Due to performance issues it was changed with 8.7. You have to patch the original audio folder now:

- make a backup of this folder: <Wot main directory>/res/audio, for example copy it to <Wot main directory>/res/BACKUP_audio (allows you to quickly switch back to the original config)

- extract both folders 'res' and 'res_mods' of the archive into <Wot main directory>

The sounds are really great, but cause lags on low performing pcs. I am already down to 20-25 fps on some maps anyway, so I decided to remove the sounds. In 8.8 some further changes of the mod are planned, so maybe I will try them again later.

Just followed the instructions as directed by 'lostplace' and loaded up WoT. All I can say is wow! Gun sounds are great.

If you need any assistance installing the mod give me a shout in-game flash64.

I've installed both the engine and gun sounds mod. It took a bit of fiddling, but I have managed to do it without messing with the original audio folder. Will upload an archive that can be extracted straight to the WoT folder later.

Ok, it turned out to be a rather large file, so I am resorting to two methods.

1) You can grab this approx. 300MB .zip file and extract it to your WoT folder.

or

- Go to ...\<your world of tanks folder>\res\ and copy the audio folder
- Paste this folder to ...\<your world of tanks folder>\res_mods\0.8.7\
- Grab the original mod install from the link further up in this thread and extract the audio folder it contains to the same folder. Windows will ask you whether you want to merge the two hit "Yes" and "Copy and Replace".
- This mod is pretty damned loud, so go into your audio settings ingame and turn down the vehicle sounds (mine are set to about 30%, so I can still hear TS over the engine roar).

Really cool mod, makes the vehicles sound miles better. It replaces the terrible stock reload sound to one that actually sound like an empty shell being dumped on the floor and the distant gun fire actually sounds like being in a battle again (including the "whizzing" of incoming artillery).

It's a great mod with some of the bigger guns sounding like a clap of thunder. Thanks to Flash64 for drawing my attention to it.
