SGTA Historical Battles

Post  we_just_dinged_em on Tue Jul 16, 2013 1:41 am

So, we got a bit off topic in another thread but we all thought this would be a good idea, get some SGTA members together and play some 'historical' battles.

Imagine 3 Tigers fighting 10 Shermans with 50% crews, historical modules and standard ammo Smile

Some guns and engines can be searched through wikipedia.
Also, on the FTR blog every now and then there is some history story.

some sites(?):

hiya,

It sounds like a ton of fun. Maybe PZ4 and T-34 against each other as well ?

The only issue is that Tigers were supposed to engage at distances of 2 KM if even further.
the biggest maps are 1 km and with a max spotting range of 445 M those M4's will swarm those Tigers in 10-15 secs .

We can always try it and see if it works out.

What's held me back in the past is that outside of not being able to use the crews I spent so much time on, their rules don't allow any vehicle camo either. I spent gold on that :/ Same goes for equipment really.

I would love to participate, but I am not prepared to drop stuff I spent gold on to be able to.

Bets thing to do is start off with low tiers that dont cost much see if it actually works.

Do a bit of digging and find some early tank battles we could do - maybe Germany vs France 1940 or something similar.

but I am sure there are more detailed sources than wikipedia ;-)

yes I will try to see if I find some details.

I think the Pz IV wouldnt have the right hulls for the 1940 circumstances. the 80mm front plate was a later variant, earlier ones used 30-50mm  thought. don't know about the Pz III's 70mm front plate.

Edit: Pz III ausf A will do I think

We might have to accept certain comprimises due to game limitations, this can be sorted when we write the rules. Just been looking at the french tree, most of what we need is tier 4 or lower. Some unlucky buggers might have to drive FT17s Smile

Found some possible ressources on tank info (most of it for germans research for the french part might be a bit more difficult i think) saved the links but too braindead after work to go thru them today and write it together to post it ... have been going tanking now to be one of the thousands of braindead tankers out there.

That's not fair, the shermans dont stand a chance. Historically a Tiger had a killrate of 10 shermans/tiger tongue

Well the rule of 50% is simply because big advantages like sixth sense or prolonged view range or repair skills can give and the 50% is for free. Maybe later we can try some challenges with trained crew, but for start its better to be equal on crew level.
Secondly, there is usually mentioned, that if you have equipment (or cammo), which have to be dropped by gold, you don’t have to. It will give you some advantage, but as most players use them too, it want be as big as highly trained/no trained crew. Only modules which are droppable (binos, camo net, rep. box), consumables (food, med kit, extinguisher, rep kit) and premium ammo are forbidden.

There even can be limitation on ammo load based on historical data, but we can address that later.

At the end of the day we are looking at low tier french and german tanks to test the concept, therefore it will cost you a few credits to buy them with a free 50% crew and nothing more.

I was also thinking that for 'historical' reasons some tanks destroyers may be allowed to mount a camo net for example, such equipment could be listed in the 'specification' for each tank - what do you think?

Maybe it can be allowed in some scenarios, but better to start with some simple tank battles.

Fully prepaired to grab some low tier tanks with 50% crew! I do see why fully trained crews are not allowed (it is just disappointing Smile).

It will be interesting to see how historical battles will influence tactics, for one

Was thinking about this. For example, the French had a lot of FT17s in 1940, mostly armed with machine guns!

We will need to balance any scenario very carefully because it will be impossible otherwise with a Tier 1 pew pew gun Smile
