I'm actually rather happy with this update. I think there will be less HEAT spam around. I'm also interested in the new role of artillery, laser guided shots aren't possible anymore. I hope they increase splash range of HE sheels, so artillery will still damage, will being less accurate.

Artillery is already inaccurate, all this does is take the remaining skill from SPGs and turns them literally into a lucky shot weapon.

I would have preferred an alpha nerf with maybe an ROF/accuracy buff, that way you can be a valuable support tool. Also, the damage each shot does should be evened out, its ridiculous that at the moment you high for 200 dmg, miss or pen for 1000 dmg, the spread shouldnt be so high. I would favour a cap on the alpha of high tier SPGs, to say 500 dmg but increased ROF to compensate. That way there would be less oneshots and you could still own noobs who camp in one spot.

I'm wondering if artillery will even be a viable weapon in TC and CW after the update, especially at the high tiers were you have to wait 30 - 60 seconds for a reload.

Time will tell, for sure 8.6 will be a significant update for the game. Whether it is for the better or worse time will tell Smile

(PS I will still be playing SPGs even after the patch)

I need to spend more time thinking about this, but it does look like there is potential for armour to be of value again. My Super Pershing hasnt been buffed to 1500hp engine and 400 pen though, but equally my new love, the T69 HEAT spammer and general wounded tank destroyer looks to have slipped the net.

A general increase in shell rounds and a reduction in overall pen is going to mean its likely to be more expensive to play the game, maybe forcing people to move to a premium tank or account. Play to Pay ftw. Id imagine the less mobile mediums will suffer the most here, but it appears the high tier mediums didnt get much of a nerf to there pen.

Arty, although i enjoy playing, a nerf is needed. Getting one shotted TWICE since buying an M103 on Sunday is rediculous. From an historical perspective, what is the chance of artillery doing this, or to tanks on the move as is the case in game.
They should have left dmg, reduced accuracy and reduced the number of arty from the standard 5 per game to 2 per game.

About as realistic as instant track/gun repairs, bringing dead crew back to life or surviving more than one hit from 100mm+ calibre shells, or the Maus being able to cross bridges or more more than 100m without breaking down.

WOT is an arcade game, not a simulation. Maybe they need a 'hardcore' mode with no UI, not HP and not repairs. Basically, you get hit once and you die, unless your armour manages to keep out shells of course....

I'd be in favour of a cap down to three per game or an alpha nerf, but doesn't look like WG want to do it properly so I'm going to enjoy rolling random arty die and praying for 6s Smile

Just read through the HEAT nerfs. I have to say I like it so far. Nerfing low tier derps, good, good. But more importantly the high tier prem ammo nerf. If I didn't miss anything no heavy/med t10 gun has more than 340 pen on gold anymore, my E-100 rejoices! And I'm sure everyone who owns a Maus is happy also.

I do like this overall lowering of pen on high tiers, but let's see how it plays, before I say too much Smile

that learned from the shell debacle: every piece increase is at most 100%, eliminating any chance of credit profiteering through resales.

Also keep in mind that TD penetration wasn't touched which means 450mm pen HEAT shell from Obj. 268 will still hurt anything at any angle from any distance.

Anyway not all info is available yet and I'm kind of hoping TD's get a nerf to their prem ammo too.

Well M103 is crap except turret (as all American or any tank from top), just aim for its butt and usually its one-hit (with/without fire) or at least 1k dmg.
From historical view ... remember arctic ... bottom right neck between mountains ... high tier arty (6+) should be able to hit everything on 1 square radius with its splash dmg, means a lot of lemmings raped by one arty. Not counting that if you are hit by arty directly, your armor may survive, but most of your crew is all dead or unconscious, most of modules on turret or upper body simply melt down ... so if they made us inaccurate, good, if they equally boost our splash (was nerved in last patch hurray) and if we hit, you are simply taken out of game because wide dmg to modules and crew. + you think we aim on moving tanks? ... no we aim on SPOT ... you simply drive there. Any arty could do it ... just needed spotter, then coordinates and they just fire there, if anything was at time of impact on coordinates, it was dead.

Edit: or just get rid of artys in first place ... everyone will be happier ...

Don't forget that the arty nerf comes together with a new matchmaking weight for SPGs which effectively results in a buff, e.g. a tier 5 SPG gets into T7 games instead of T9 (for this reason many SPGs also moved one tier higher - but only one tier). It's obvious that you can't keep SPGs as they are and need to balance their new matchmaking.

If you like SPGs or not, we can be quite sure that WG won't nerf SPGs to uselessness as they simply bring aspects into the game that all other tank classes are not able to do. Finally we have to see how it plays when it comes into the game.

better accuracy, camo nets and painting become useful(nice monetary incentive wg slipped in there for themselves), Bush's become less powerful and td and spg will now earn their rightful amount of xp. (which will make my su-100y very happy)

all in all good changes I think but 15 meter bush rule will have to be retested.

The grind from tier 5 and up for arty will be a lot faster! I'm going to play a lot more battles as arty, in case they change this back again!
