Mic suggestions

Post  we_just_dinged_em on Fri May 10, 2013 10:11 pm

Anyone who suffered my class last night will know how bad my mic is, thats what you get for buying from Chinese Ebay!

Now I've got some pennies and I'm looking at buying a decent one. I want a combined mic/headset so have you guys got any recommendations? Money is no object generally but I won't spend a lot unless it looks sexy or does something amazing.

I have a Logitech G930 which is very good but the headrest is a bit lacking in padding. I could wear a beany but I'm a bit old for that and don't want to look like Benny from Crossroads (that dates me a bit!)

I use SteelSeries Siberia V2 myself, got one for 60€. It's really light and comfortable, which is good as I use it for hours. But there's one catch... my mic doesn't work anymore xD Might be just bad luck, and if I would have saved the receipt I could have exchanged it for a new one.

I use this one :http://uk.asus.com/Peripherals_Accessories/HeadphonesHeadset/HSW1/
And when i say use i mean at home while playing Wot and at work to listen to music and do phone calls (... Voice over IP ... grr...) so i use it daily excessiv. Might be a bit expensive
http://skinflint.co.uk/asus-hs-w1-wireless-90-yahi6130-ua00-a697874.html
But the plus sides of this are a good audio quality, its wirelss (which is not a plus for "audiophile people") with the capability to load while using it via USB and its ear pads are out of leather like but comfortable material that does not soak up sweat when it is hot. Downside i had to change the channels of my WLAN when i got it because it crushed it *G*

What the company i work for uses as default headset is this one:
http://skinflint.co.uk/logitech-b750-wireless-headset-981-000186-a452852.html
works also fine for its price but i did not like to wear it cause for the whole day it had to less comfort in my opinion others had no problem with that.

I was told by collegues that Steelseries or Razer ones are quite ok/good.

General tip: what i do when i am looking for new hardware stuff is check out price comparison portals like the one above (well sorry i don't know if this one is really good for UK) where I specify the parameters i want (like wireless, not wireless, binaural, monaural, cable length, etc) And then check back the user reviews on Amazon or general hardware sites like Tom's Hardware and order it then where it is cheapest.

Everything coming from Razer is way overpriced. Steelseries is a good alternative though. If you want a cheap headset with a good mic(<30€), Logitech is probably the only option, the rest is just not as good in that price range.
