Some epic lazy moments :-)

Post  lazydot on Fri Feb 15, 2013 9:38 am

Hey guys, had some nice games today, 1 of them is where I had 54 HP left as T-54 with 2 kills, last man standing vs 4 at the end, still winning the game for a total of 9 kills, enjoy (-:

Thanks for posting - what a great game! The last guy really lucked out on his final shot Laughing

Just out of interest what crew skills do you have?

repairs, 6th sense, camo
repairs, snap shot, camo
repairs, off road, clutch braking
repairs, safe stowage, camo

3d skill will be changed to BIA if its up to 100%, as 4th I start over with what is now 3d, 5th skill on driver will be smooth ride, camo, then prev. maintenance, dunno for the rest :-)

The only skill I'm unsure with, is whether to go for smooth ride over clutch braking, but accuracy on the move is pretty good anyway, even though in that game I missed a lot by taking very risky shots, usually its a bit better than that.

Clutch Braking increases turn rate bya whopping 5 degrees/sec. That's a huge amount. FOr what it's worth, get clutch braking because it gives you so much in stats compared to other.

I know, but since it turns so fast already, I thought that missing a bit less shots on the move could be of a greater value overall, since I shot on the move even on 200-300m+ targets a lot but also hit them a lot.

Since I don't have 4-5 skills yet, the question is only which order would be the best (my current with clutch braking, or taking smooth ride instead).

T-62A is a major accuracy upgrade from T-54. Its turn speed is also insane. In my opinion, I'd pick smooth ride as the 62A turns faster than any tank I've seen so far, but it lacks the engine power for good acceleration. In all, 54 is better at close combat than 62A. 62A has the highest dpm of all the mediums, at 3000 dpm, the tank has higher dpm than all the tier X TDs exluding object 268.
In return, it has the poor gun depression that all soviet high tiers have, worse hull armor and worse mobility than 54. But it turns very very fast.

I'd pick smooth ride, because with the pen on 62A, you're not really going to bounce on anything short of the front of tier X heavies or TDs, and with prem shells that's even less of an issue. Clutch breaking is only good if you plan on truly being in close and personal (+ turning fast makes no sense for armor usage as the hull is larger than 54, but same protection as type 59), but that would be wasting one of the best guns among the mediums. With a reload time of 5.5 sec, shooting 320 dmg shells, it suits perfectly for a medium that needs to control the enemy tank by module sniping.
It packs less alpha than other tier X mediums, but shoot the axle of a tank, and you can take out an IS-7 before it manages to take you out by sheer dps. Nuff said, the 62A is a high dpm sniper, and a tank that relies on either low profile or sheer volume of fire at close range. That is different from 54 whom relies on anti medium hull armor (120mm at that slope gives above 200mm effective armor at horizontal angles, making it completely shut down tier 8 mediums and most heavies) while only about 180mm effective on type 59 and T-62A.
However, the 62A has a thicker turret than T-54, making it more suited for hull down tactics, albeit finding hull down with either of those tanks is a major challenge itself due to their lack of gun depression.

In the end, I suggest
sixth sense, deadeye, off road, safe stowage
repair, repair, repair, repair,
if 200%, replace repair with BIA and restart repair.

BIA increases the overall performance and increases the DPM slightly. The 62A has very low aimtime, thus I find snap shot pointless as a few milliseconds less aimtime is pointless in comparison to lower load time and better overall performance. WIth 0.33 accuracy, the 62A is only short of the FV and E-50M in terms of accuracy, it has excellent shell velocity, thus accuracy is never a problem with this tank. Mediums will always require repair simply because they rely on mobility to stay alive, and a tracked medium is a dead medium, especially a glass machinegun like T-62A. Safe stowage because like most high end russian mediums, the ammo rack is very vulnerable. Deadeye because with the lowest reload time of all the mediums with a golden dmg at 320 (just enough to shut down modules and tracks of high tiers), at close range you will control the enemy by axle shooting and blowing their turret ring/ammo racks etc. With 5.5 sec reload time, only an enemy with 100% repair AND repair kit will be able to escape your track jamming. If you hit a lone enemys track, the person will most likely repair that, proceed to jam again, or simply wreck his ammo from the side. The 62-A will completely shut down any of the other mediums at close range due to its superior DPM (3000 dmg per minute compared to 2300 to E-50M) and butcher a batchat if it misses/bounces a shot. + 50M's cannot take you if you hug their side/front. Pattons have 2500 dpm compared to your 3000, so in a direct fight, you'd take them out. However, as I stated, 62A is a glass gun, very poor hull armor makes the tank more of a mobile machinegun. Thus the best use of 62A is to be medium range dps support, by using that accurate fast firing gun to jam enemy tanks and annihilate them from distance where your low profile and very thick turret gives you an advantage.
However, a major disadvantage is that 62A has a very exposed rear top due to turret being forward mounted compared to the middle mounted 54. This means arties trying to hit you from the front, can overshoot you and hit the soft top of your rear hull, almost instantly taking you out.

Anyway, that's just me explaining what 54 turns into if you ever want to go for the tier X, as its a big gamestyle change.

Wow thanks for the info!

Well, I love t-54 and its play style the most (also having the highest WR, highest DPB, highest KDR among all my tanks in it in ~300+ games), I will buy 62a at some point but will never sell my t-54, so it will start with 1-skill crew from kv-1s which I sold like a week ago.

Small thing I disagree with is the importance of repair skill, I would not advise to change it to BIA at 200% but at 280% at most, so you have at least 80% repair skill at all times, since BIA can't compensate those 3-4 long seconds being tracked and exposed.

T-54 has about 2-3 seconds repair speed on tracks, with BIA it will be even less, not sure about repair speed of 62a though.

Shouldn't be that low. Repair speed is about minimum 5 seconds, that is if you have 100% repair crew + repair kit. At least unless they changed the repair system.

As t-54 was released one of the biggest advantages was the fastest repair speed in game which was 2 seconds. It was "normalized" a bit, but it is still AFAIK a tank with fastest repair speed on tracks. I had games already were it was really 2 seconds (was the very first hit I took fro E-50 or E-50m), usually its around 3-4 seconds max, it probably depends how many hit points your tracks have left at the moment of tracking shot.

EDIT: in that game i had vent + 100% repair skill on every crew member, BIA or premium repair kit, which reduces the repair time by 10% or toolbox for another 25% speed up were not used.

Update with new replays

Post  lazydot on Fri Feb 22, 2013 11:04 pm

Just to update this one with few new replays:

1) Finally managed to get Ace Tanker badge after 100 battles in my IS-3, nothing spectacular at all, some hull down/double bush/wrecks utilization:

Victory! Map: Malinovka Donnerstag, 21. Februar 2013 20:51:34
Vehicle:: IS-3
Exp: 5.114 (x2) + Credits: 75.576
Achievements: : Steel Wall, Sniper, Mastery Badge: "Ace Tanker"

2) A very close fight in platoon with Wasp and ticko, where I was 1 shot vs t34 and arty at the end but managed to kill the "uh I cap..uh I get shot..uh I keep capping.." dude, also a bit lucky to not take to much damage by the last shot of Hummel:

3) Ace Tanker in WZ-131:

Note that I'm using IMHO superior 85mm gun and not the shity top gun, but 85mm requires more HEAT shells to be effective if you don't want to snipe for the weakest of the weak spots all the time, which is hard to do in a fast-played tank like this.

4) Funny ELC round, where I tried to get mid bush on Malinovka, but got spotted, because I was dumb...luckily all but 1 shots missed me. 7k upon spotting damage and some nice TROLOLOLOLOL OLOLOLOL moments (-:

5) Last but not least, nothing spectacular here except of my 5th Radley-Walters's in this lovely beast:
Victory! Map: Prokhorovka Donnerstag, 21. Februar 2013 23:30:30
Vehicle:: T-54
Exp: 2.023 + Credits: 72.931
Achievements: : Radley-Walters's Medal, Crucial Contribution, Top Gun

Enjoy, oh and btw. any comments (even dumb ones :-) pointing any mistakes or superior tactics which could have been applied appreciated. And can someone tell me, why I managed to get mid bush on Malinovka like always in ELC, but last 2-3 times I have tried it I failed like in that ELC replay?

Just worthy of a mention, when T-54 was released, it benefited from completely outplaying the then tier 9 counterparts, panther II and pershing, easily being able to fight at tier X (where IS-7 had paper hull and Maus were core tanks of CWs)

100% in that skill gives an extra 5% - for most tanks that works out at around 1-3 degrees/sec extra, I think. A nice buff, but I always rate off-road driving as the more important one.

Off road driving is better for most purposes, but for stationary turning, I'd say clutch breaking is better. In medium tanks, losing speed momentum is much more dangerous than simply turning a tad bit slow. Only tanks that has to rely on angling fast, such as Maus, foch, t95 etc requires clutch breaking imo.

Agreed. I always go for repairs (or camo on lights) then off-road as the best available overall skill, only after first 2 I go for BIA/clutch braking/smooth ride.

The only exception could be UK tanks, since most of them got pretty shitty speed but way to OP off-road abilities to compensate it, allowing them to never bleed speed by turning or while on soft/medium terrain (or not that much as opposed to the rest of the tanks with weaker engines).
