Vallu the Finnish killstealer

Post  Vallu01 on Wed Feb 13, 2013 7:00 pm

So how did I end up here? Well I got pissed off at hearing "We hit them hard" and seeing no damage. Searched for a reason for this, found it among thousand other things I had never heard of. After some research I came across some idea from a crazy Chinese guy ( Wink ), which he called a tank academy and found a recruitment topic for newly formed Specialist Global Tank Academy. So I joined SGTA about 9 months ago.

Back then SGTA was still starting up and Ding who is the f(l)ounder and was Commander back then was on a holiday, EUROBrit, Deputy Commander at the time, was in charge. Not much was happening apart from questions in the chat and some platoons and I was mainly learning by watching the more experienced guys after I died. Who weren't hard to find as I only had about 800-1000 battles, 48%, below average efficiency and only having played the Tiger line (I know, I know Embarassed ).

After we got our forums I found few instructors who I asked advice from, shortly after some TC's were organised. Those were tons of fun even back then and taught me a lot about tactics, teamwork and roles you can fulfill. Sid also kept the first official class, which was about TD's and I just had started playing Russian TD line, so I happily joined. Soon came the first Easy 8 Cup to which Jasmin and Wasp organised a team from SGTA. This is where it starts to get interesting for me Smile .

Soon SGTA had enough interest to create 2 teams. And for reasons I still haven't figured out Jasmin and Wasp asked me to organise and command the 2nd team. I first rejected it, but somehow I was persuaded to do it anyway (I deny any rumours that I was bribed with Vlokke and reindeer). I barely managed to get enough people for the team, some that you might know like Lazy and Brit (who bought a laptop to play the Cup while on a gig!). Unfortunately one of them didn't show up and we ended up against a well organised team and lost in the first match, but it showed that there are people in the clan to go the extra mile to get things done. After this I started commanding TC's more and more, which greatly helped my map knowledge and situational awareness.

And so, partly by accident, I had learned a lot about the game without noticing it. I did some training sessions with Kawa and Wasp and then asked I could do the test for the normal curriculum (which was the basis for classes back then, which were usually 1on1 training). SGTA was lacking some active instructors and organisers, so I asked Ding (who had just returned from the holiday) if I could help somehow and I ended up being an instructor. Soon after there was a lot of changes.

Ding stepped down and Brit was made the new Commander. After that Sid was made the Deputy Commander and he soon called instructors meeting to solve some underlying problems. First and foremost it was decided that we needed a new class system, where classes would be held regularly about certain topic, dubbed as the "Overall Guide". Some other boring admin stuff was also discussed. Wasp organised the outline of the Overall Guide and divided it into Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Courses.

Me and Wasp, mainly Wasp, set to work writing the Basic Courses and deciding what kind of stuff there will be in which of the courses and classes. This is still ongoing with Basics done and Intermediate close to finished. Meanwhile the old curriculum was in the place and we held weekly TC's. All the while I was still learning new stuff (I still am!). I also started doing simple YT videos, which have evolved into commentary videos you see now. I also started organising and helping out on almost everything that was going on in SGTA. After Basic Courses were ready I started keeping or helping out in the classes.

Recently Brit made me the Deputy Commander. I still do all the stuff I did before. Keep classes, help with with organising and writing the material for them, do an occasional TC or training session, do YT videos and overall organise and keep track of what's happening. Essentially doing day-to-day management and trying to ensure everything is running smoothly.

None of what I imagined to be doing when I joined SGTA to learn about those 0 damage penetrations. And you know what? They still piss me off!! Mad

Did you think you would get off that easy? No! Now I'm going to talk about my real life Very Happy

I'm from Finland, city of Pori to be exact. I currently attend evening school, so that's why I have a lot of time in my hands. My hobby is, apart for WoT Smile , racing go-karts. I like driving, especially racing and I watch a lot of F1. I've had a lot of hobbies in the past, football, judo, bowling, boxing and airsoft, none which kept me interested long. Then I learnt how to drive a moped... I used most of my time was used driving my mopeds or trying to keep them running (which is not so easy in winter sometimes). I was one the stubborn ones who drove their moped everywhere. Have to wear a suit to school party? No problem! Moped buried under over 1 meter of snow? No problem! I still have a picture of the empty parking space with only one moped there, I was the only one stubborn and stupid enough to drive to school while there was a snow storm. Did I mention I love racing? I learnt how to race on a PC with wheel and pedal set before I had driven a real car.

Enough of that! I always liked games. Racing (mostly simracing), grand-strategy, RTS and RPG are among my favourite. If anyone ever wants somebody to play with some racing or strategy games, hit me up!

Apart from that my life is pretty usual, school, friends and hobbies. Always up for having good time with friends. Swimming, barbecue and sauna with friends on nice summer evening is pretty much I could ask for Smile And some racing also Wink

I'll babbled on too much now! Razz

I think your signature sums up your attitude well: 'Skill is not an unlock!' Well done Vallu! When you joined SGTA I would never have imagined you to become such a high ranking and well respected member! Kudos indeed!

I got off easy, I stopped bothering to read after that line.
Perhaps I would've gone up the ranks at all if I didn't have such a lone wolf playstyle, as I hate TCs.
