Music we love!

Post  SteelToedSneakers on Sun Mar 17, 2013 7:23 am

Instead of filling intro threads with music, why not gather all in one thread?

I'll start Smile

My favourite music is punk, there's no doubt about that. My nick is from a song by The Humpers

Other genres I like are Black Metal, as I should being from Norway and all that. (Mind you, I've never burned a church!)

Dropkick Murphy's are one of my all time favourites

Then you have Swedish punk (with Swedish lyrics) like LOK (Luckilly, as a Norwegian, I understand Swedish!)

First things first. Always when I'm asked what kind of music I like my answer is "Good music". Truth be told I don't care about music much and so I don't even know the names of songs I like Neutral .

But here's one band I like to listen to while playing WoT if I don't have anyone chatting with me on TS. Puts me in the right mindset.

I have to agree with Vallu on this. Also, Sabaton's Talvisota is a nice one to listen to too. Especially when I'm playing Company of Heroes or any of the Call of Dutys situated in WWII. Very Happy

Interesting mix.... though I must confess, having had a listen, none of it really to my taste alas. I only really have one rule when it comes to music: [Christopher Walken]I have a fever, and the only cure is more harpsichord[/Walken]. I especially love JS Bach, but also the likes of Scarlatti, Handel and William Byrd. I listen to a great deal more of course (Glen Miller and Gwen Stefani sit next to each other on my MP3 player Very Happy ), but it still remains the case that my perfect t-shirt would be one bearing the legend "Baroque composers do it on the gravicembalo".

(For this one, I have specially commissioned a work from the master meme-smiths of Internetshire, that world famous group of TOAP artisans.)

I do keep an eye out for what people do with stepper-motor music too, just for a bit of a mix-up here are two favourites:

I'm really a non-vocal music person. I prefer 'pure' music, probably caused by my long years of piano playing. So basically anything classical or techno or electronic music.

I rarely find music with vocals appealing, but things like this catches my eye. Kinda because I make so many of them -.-

It's not that you don't care about music, you just don't care about names. It's the piece of art that matters, nothing else. If it connects to our mind, it opens up whole worlds. And that's great!

There are countless masterpieces out there. A decade ago I would have ignored half of them, but I learned that there are great things even where we don't expect them. Today I'm not looking for music genres, not even for music. Instead, I'm looking for art. And I'm glad to see such a big variety Smile

One of the first musicians who impressed me was Chopin. One that really impressed me in the last few years is Casper.
Warning: might be very unsettling. If you are susceptible to abuse of power, skip the spoiler.
Spoiler:

Language is German, translation below the video. And yes, he really has this voice, it's not distorted.

Casper - Father's Day

the door flies open, feel the the punch in my face
under the back - the slat that breaks
cling to it, pressed into the mattress by him
hate the look in his eyes, can't believe it
this is not my Dad
this is another person,
grabbing my wrist and throwing me and forcing me under his breath
Kisses my cheek, wipes away the fear-sweat
whimper in the darkness, I wish myself far away
thrust one, the linen is wet, blood-red, heavy wet booze-breath
thrust two, moves up, moves down, "You do fine!", but I don't understand
thrust three, this pain, I beg you, God!
he grunts, he shakes, turns away trembling
then he talks of secrets at night
everything I believed in, running down my legs

(x2)
But I know he loves me. He has to.
I know he loves me, he has to.
I know he loves me.
He has to, when my head says he loves me.
God says, he loves me.

the door flies closed. How the mirror is laughing at me
feet don't bother about the cold tiles
drops douse me loudly, always in rhythm, but the dirt doesn't go away
shaky steps to the kitchen
splat, in the middle naked under the table
slap, into the puddle, clench my tiny fist
I'm like Mom, at last: a real woman
real pain, real blood, wrecked heart, happy wrath
look how disgrace is marching, whispers the wall near the door

(x2)
But I know he loves me. He has to.
I know he loves me, he has to.
I know he loves me.
He has to, when my head says he loves me.
God says, he loves me.

(x2)
on the bedside table lies the letter
happy Father's Day
you are the best Dad in the world

(x2)
But I know he loves me. He has to.
I know he loves me, he has to.
I know he loves me.
He has to, when my head says he loves me.
God says, he loves me.

Less unsettling but impressive nonetheless (for German Firefox users I recommend the plugin "Stealthy"):

And of course one of my alltime favourites:

I tend to listen most to rock/metal, a bit of EBM and some old school gangster rap (Ice-T Laughing ) when playing.

On certain matches like when I'm solo-pubbing in something troll such as a hetzer I put this on:

Hence why I took the nickname, because it just makes sense. Cool

When I read your new nickname, this was what first came to mind. Wasn't wrong. LOL you could also have picked 'The Right to Go Insane' with that mad guy in the tank.

I don't listen to music while playing WoT. I'm a great big softy who likes music that gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling. Either that, or it has to lead to some serious booty shaking.

Here's some tunes I've recently liked

Girls In Hawaii - Misses

Laura Mvula - Green garden

Phantom Limb - In the pines

SX - Gold

Prince - Rock and roll love affair

Softy or not, feeling warm and fuzzy is a good reason to listen to music. You might want to check out Laura Veirs

Dvořák! The New World Symphony is one of my favourites, along with the suite of Slavonic Dances and the American Suite; for some reason, though I'm big into Baroque, there are a few of the Romantic composers I'm particularly fond of too (Rimsky-Korsakov, Strauss, Elgar, Vaughn Williams, that sort of thing). Some interesting other choices on there too, of course I approve of the harpsichords greatly. Very Happy
