T26E4 Super Pershing

Post  gottenss on Mon Mar 11, 2013 6:42 pm

So, as the title says I need some tips and tricks on how to play the SP.I also need to know what is the best equipment for the tank( I own Gun Rammer and Vertical Stabilizer for now).I'm having trouble on opened maps where the low pen gun doesn't help against high tier tanks...Also, what skills should I get for the crew ?Feel free to write your opinions about this tank.THX !

the superpershing is a heavy disguised as a medium. It is one tough tank. In tier 8s it is awe inspiring. Make use of the front with it's spaced armor, it has plenty. The sides and rear are really weak. Hull down, these are beasts.

short version: play it like a heavy Razz

Been playing this for a few weeks now and I love it.
Frontal armour is insane, and the MM it gets really makes it seem even better.

Know your weak spots, read up on them. when you are brawling, dont let your turret face the enemy, as a big weak spot are the tubes on the roof of the tank, face your turret right, then snap foward to shoot then back right to reload etc. Makes your top of turret weak spot a lot smaller.
Dont crest hills into heavys, your weak underbelly see's you take a lot of dmg.
Always, always keep your frontal armour facing the biggest threat.
The gun is fairly accurate, take the time to pick your spot, as its not as powerfull as same tier heavys, you have to make your shots count.
Crew wise, smooth ride helps speed things up a bit, as its a touch slow, apart from that there where not any glaring skills i felt I needed.
This is a guide on my experience only. Ive googled and read up a little, but im not an expert.
Watch some of the videos on pershing weak spots and how to kill a pershing, an be carefull to try not to allow anyone to do it to you Very Happy
HULL DOWN! its your friend. SP has reasonable gun depression, use it to your advantage.

did they change the tubes to hitboxes? They did not use to be. But the cupola is a big weakspot as are the other top turret appendixes indeed.

No idea, watched a vid on it, shot a few pershings in the tubes and done nice dmg, so no assumed the vid to be right Very Happy

I think shots go through the 'tubes' and hit a weak spot behind them.

Thats the wargaming review on it...I got the idea when they say "position your turret like this to prevent the enemy from taking an easy shot into your two tubes". they may of course just be meaning hide the soft point behind it....or not....I dont know. (Happens at around 4.04 minutes into the vid)

Keep your tank on linear terrain, the spaced armor on front of the hull actually diverts shells into the ground, so even if you pen them from the front, the shell just slides off without hitting the tank. Cresting hills makes this effect go away, and nosediving into enemies makes your upper plate vulnerable. For SP fighting heavies, snipe their commander cupolas. Compared to IS-3, your gun aims alot faster and is overall more reliable. Use high gun depression to slaughter soviet front plates at close ranges.

Well, I checked different guides, and also there the tubes are not considered hitboxes:

The smaller picture below the normal frontal view shows the top of the turret and how the two large pistons on top are not part of the hit box.

The tubes are no-hit boxes, shots will go through them and hit the turret top or cupolas behind them, which are easy to pen. Never try to shoot the tubes from the side for example. The tubes are actually a counterweight for the gun Smile .

For gameplay, well you got enough advise already.

A note on repairs and skills - Repairs & toolbox are both useful, given it's nature. The Smooth Ride/Snap Shot skills are also pretty useful, and firing on the move is just more practical than other tanks generally because of the slower speed.
