SGTA and the new 7/42 mode

Post  Sapaki on Wed Oct 30, 2013 8:36 pm

Fellow SGTAers,

It has come to our attention and has been thoroughly discussed during our previous staff meeting that there have been some concerns raised about the new game mode (7/42) introduction and the teams SGTA was going to commit in it. As you all know, the great difference between this new game mode and every previous one (randoms, TCs and CWs) is the introduction of a skill based MM. Taken that into account, it has been decided that it would be better if some instructors and more experienced clan members would start off in this mode in order to gain sufficient experience in order to gradually introduce students to it, rather than throwing them straight into “deep waters”.

In the short run, and because of the clumsy way that it has been announced (that was a complete communication failure from our behalf and we apologize for that) , it has given the students the impression that we have decided to make an “instructor” team and a “student” team, have “fun between staff” and let the students fend for themselves. This is far from being our intention. We felt that it was necessary as to clear things out, so this is how the clan should proceed concerning this issue, taking into account that there is a new CW campaign upcoming as well. Add to this that the TCs should and will continue at least once a week, this is what we think that the plan should be for the next couple of months:

  • ·         One organized TC night per week will be maintained as such. We feel that this should be done, because TCs are fun to play for all and are also a good and smooth introduction for more inexperienced students into team tactics.

  • ·         The other organized TC night per week will be substituted for a CW campaign night. Our experience from our previous CW campaigns has shown us that students are interested in this game mode which is also a good introduction into team tactics, as well as giving a preview to those interested in joining a competitive clan once they leave SGTA. Since we have two clans, two CW campaigns will be organized, one for each clan, so everyone can participate.

  • ·         When planning the above, we also noticed that we were one FC short in SGTA. It has therefore been decided to move 1ndependance (Clem) from SGTA2 to SGTA in order to fulfill FC duties.

  • ·         Initially, some of the more experienced members and instructors will form one team and participate in 7/42 battles, mainly in order to familiarize themselves with the new mode. However, once the CW campaign is over, we will hold organized mixed and balanced 7/42 sessions with both students and instructors.

That been said, this concerns ONLY our organized and announced in advance sessions. There is NO restriction for students to participate in the new 7/42 mode, this is why it was decided to provide a FC for that purpose (now there are two FCs available). As TCs can be organized on the fly, so can 7/42 sessions. Seven people being a lot easier to find than 11, it might be a lot easier to organize this too.

Again, to make things clear, we cannot hold TCs, 7/42, and a CW campaign simultaneously in an organized manner (with periodical set dates and pre-announced on the forums that is) with satisfactory results. It would take a lot of time and effort away from the classes and it is of our opinion that his would be a bad thing in the long run. Therefore, we will first do the CW campaign, and then hold organized 7/42 sessions. In the meanwhile, some of the more experienced members will get familiarized with said game mode, and a couple of FCs will be available for the students if they still wish to participate in the new game mode in a non-official manner, out of curiosity and just for the fun of it!

For those who do not know it, TCs were introduced in a similar way in SGTA and now are a standard feature of the clan. In the beginning only the most experienced members where participating, and it gradually opened up to the rest of the clan. This allowed us to form balanced teams and we think that this is one of the reasons why the clan is so successful in TCs. We wish to do the same with 7/42. Rushing to the new “toy” available is understandable, but if not handled correctly it could lead into disappointments and catastrophic results.

We are not against students having fun, and especially not against students having fun with instructors. This mix&match is a core characteristic of this clan. Nevertheless, we would rather have the resources and experience available in order to be able to offer the students something more than just “fun” and this is to teach them how to become better players. Therefore, organized 7/42 sessions will have to wait until a) the CW campaign is over so that the resources required are available b) the staff members and the more experienced member of the clan have become familiar enough with the new mode so as to properly introduce students to it. Again, we apologize that this has not been conveyed to you in such a manner.

During the previous staff meeting we have also considered whether we should assign a person dedicated exclusively to internal clan communications, in order to avoid any such communication failures in the future. We will finalize our decision during an upcoming staff meeting on this subject.

We hope that this clears things out. If anything else needs clearing out, or some further explanations are required, don’t be afraid to post your concerns here and they will all be replied.

As some of you have voiced your concerns for that issue (that’s how it came to our attention too), if you feel that there are other issues to be conveyed to the staff, please do not hesitate to communicate them to any of the staff and they will be replied at and/or discussed during staff meetings. Your guides are also available for that purpose, even after your introductory period has ended.

Regards,

The Staff

firstly, apologies for not being around much recently.

re the above, what ever you think surrounding the new game modes. I do agree that once students are familiar with lesson content they should be getting involved in TC's, 7v7 and CW games as that, atthe end of the day is what we are all striving for...to compete, as a team, in battle... success is the icing on the cake, if you have that sweet tooth.

Let us know when we are required and we will step forward im sure.

OOI, this new CW campaign, is it similar to the last where by ALL tier of tanks are to be used as that gives us all a much better chance of taking part.

First impressions are that this mode sucks. Fighting tomatos in their Churchill III whilst I derp around with the ISU?

Not my idea of a challenge, and I can do that in randoms.

Will take some time.

First for the skillbased MM to establish itself (skill will be weighed on performance within 7/42 separately from Random
Battles iirc). Secondly, for the rabble to catch up on what tanks they need for this mode (this includes me, as I barely have any of the required tanks Razz ).

If you want a challenge, I suggest starting by stopping with the TD's Wink

It's very similar to carrying tomato teams in most other tanks. In other tanks you might have to drive around and be agressive to carry, where in the ISU you need to hang back and show patience.
The only difference is that in the ISU you end up with 4000 damage done regardless of the team, the circumstances or the outcome of the match. Wink
